Matthew 9: 37-38 “ Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are fewtherefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
As I was doing my quiet time this week, I came across this verse and just wanted to encourage others with what I took away from it.
Some of you may or may not know this, but I am a high school senior this year and I am SO EXCITED! Everyone says that this is the most exciting year and I can’t wait to experience it with my friends. As we look towards making big decisions this year with college, it can be easy to forget the purpose and responsibility we have as believers. We either come up with excuses like ‘we don’t have time’ or “ I have to focus on my future now”. In fact, society makes it really easy for us to use that and idolize it.
But y’all. This verse hit me right in the gut. I am seventeen years old, and even at my relatively young age, I have recently found myself staying up late at night wondering what the point to all this stress is. “What college am I going too? What do I want to major in? Where do I want to live? How will I pay for college?” In the end, I always come back to this- we are called to do so much more.
While I understand the importance of education and the blessings it pours out, it is so important to not waste away time waiting for our future to start when we have such a huge calling as believers in the present. The Word of God tells us the harvest is plenty which means there are people out there that are ready to receive and hear the message of salvation. Jesus has prepared the hearts of many to listen and come to know Him. However Jesus also makes it clear that compared to the numbers that are ready to receive, the amount of people willing to go are few.
So this is my challenge to you. We need to come together as believers and set our eyes on what matters the most. We need to go out and share this good news we have with others. Whether it is with our neighbors, friends, or even strangers, we need to be BOLD in sharing the gospel every day. There is a harvest out there that is ready to receive the word of God. In fact there are three BILLION unreached people groups that have never heard the name of Jesus. There is no way one person could reach all those people alone. We have to be willing to go out and share this good news to the harvest.
Don’t get caught up in earthly goals and ambitions if it is taking your eyes off the purpose we have as believers. So are you ready friends?
