We all struggle with comparison in some way right? We compare ourselves to someone else's looks, the car they drive, the life they have, even to the point of how cool their Instagram shots are. I found myself in this state of comparison last night when I couldn't sleep. Scrolling through all of my favorite fashion blogger's posts on Instagram and saying things to myself like, " I wish my pictures were as great as hers", I wish my skin and hair looked that great", "I wish I could have what she has."
In the midst of scrolling through these posts God hit me like a freight train with these two truths.
" I have given you everything."
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
"You are made in my very image."
Genesis 1:27 "So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them."
Comparison is a disease that so many of us struggle with. We sit and wish we had the life of someone else or we wish we looked like someone else.
When we are secure in Christ we know that we have ALL we need. The enemy is going to constantly be whispering lies in our ears that what we do isn't good enough or the effort we dish out was for nothing. He will speak deceit in our hearts about the way God made us and plant thoughts of self hate.
God has given us everything we need to defeat these thoughts and that is His Word. We can't just sit back and ask God to take away these thoughts and expect them to disappear. We are called to fill ourselves up and cover ourselves in Truth. He gave us the very tool we need to defeat the enemy and all his nasty lies, lets use it.
You are your own person not someone else. Be who God created you to be and be satisfied.
Galatians 6:4 "Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else."
We are not supposed to look like this world so don't compare yourself to it.
Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
You are alive in Christ. Live for His approval not for this worlds.
Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
Who or What are you comparing yourself to? Allow the Lord to search your heart this week and prune away all the comparison.
